Friday
Friday was rainy and a little wet, so we hit the outlet malls in the morning and found a great local store called Palmetto Moon, which the boys absolutely loved. It had all the Southern Marsh and Vineyard Vines type clothing, including Guy Harvey, who paints fish and other wildlife.
That afternoon, the whether cleared a little, so the boys went to a lazy river at another sister resort to ours while Pam and I did some shopping at Coligny Plaza, some "beachy" sort of shops on the southern end of the island.
That night we ate a Five Guys Burgers and Fries, which was our one break from seafood. It was some excellent eats!
After this, Jeron, Trey and I went fishing on the docks of Shelter Cove. We fished until almost midnight, using shrimp and squid. We caught a whiting and sea bass and had a great time. We had light, restroom, and our own live band, which was performing at the restaurant above the docks. Great time to just relax and fish.
Saturday
Trey and I got up early and played some more golf, this time at Oyster Reef, a Rees Jones designed course with 66 bunkers!! I think I was in about half of them!!! It rained on us in the middle of the first hole, and we thought, "Oh no, here we go again," but after that, it didn't rain but was very humid. I shot a 93 and was happy with that score!!
That afternoon, we all hit the beach for one last time. It was a little sunnier than it had been and the wind was whipping sand up a little, but it was great. The water was 80 degrees and very nice.
That last night, we ate at the Seagrass Cafe, a New York style restaurant that had awesome service and small portions with high prices--I did say it was like New York. Great food nonetheless. We were able to relax as a family, reflect on the week we had, and focus our attention on the trip we started the next day--back home in two days.
After supper, we got all our luggage, fishing poles, golf clubs, beach stuff and everything ready to go that next morning. Overall, we had a fabulous time at Island Links resort at Port Royal. We enjoyed all the new experiences we had, the people we met, and the memories we made along the way.
We left Sunday morning, spent the night in North Little Rock at the same Hilton Garden Inn we stayed in on the way to Hilton Head, and then we were back in Amarillo by 6 p.m. on Monday.
Great, great trip!!
